Who doesn’t know about the benefits of regular exercise routine for keeping the body in shape? But, did you know that exercise is essential for our eyes as well just as it is for body? Until today there is no scientific proof that eye exercises will improve vision but they are a source of reducing eye strain that may help to counteract existing and potential eye problems. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), daily exercise can prevent intraocular pressure (IOP) and improve blood circulation to the optic nerve and retina. I believe that if we exercise daily then we can at least maintain our eye sight and stop it from declining.
PalmingThis exercise will help to reduce the external stimuli to your eyes. Rub your hands until they feel warm. Close your eyes and cover them with your palms. Be sure that the eyes are fully covered and no light enters into your eyes.
Near and Far Focusing
This is one of the most effective exercise that strengthen eye muscles and help you maintain your eye sight. Sit on a sofa, hold a pen or just use your thumb, and take it five to ten feet away from your face. Look at the tip of the pen or thumb for at least one minute. Then focus for one minute on any solid object which is ten to twenty feet away from you. You can practice this five to six times in a day.
Make figures using your Eyes
Directional eye exercises are great for controlling the physical movement of your eyes. Look up and focus on any object such as ceiling, and look down and focus on any object on the floor for ten to fifteen seconds. Now, repeat the same process but look right and left this time. Make a figure eight with your eyes and imagine it on the floor. Trace the figure several times.
End your exerciseAfter a great workout, end your exercise properly with palming to relax your eyes. You can simply close your eyes and for half an hour with lights off to cool down your eyes.
